1. How does the TankVac® work?

When you fill your water tank to the top, TankVac® works by creating a vacuum and sucking the contaminated water along with the sediment and animal waste from the bottom of your tank and flushing it out your overflow. When the water level drops to a predetermined point, the vacuum stops and you’re left with much improved water quality.

2. What's the point of TankVac®?

TankVac® is designed to maintain your water tank without the need to regularly empty it or the expense of water tank cleaning services. Our water tank cleaning vacuum gives you fresh, clean drinking water free from poisonous microbes.

3. How do microbes & bacteria multiply in my water tank?

They are able to split themselves in half. Depending on the temperature and the species, this process can take as little as 20 minutes. (Leave milk in hot sun and it will sour and thicken. The smell is gas given off by bacteria. The thickening is caused by their huge numbers as they rapidly multiply).

4. I've been drinking tank water without a filter - why aren't I sick?

Over time, one can build up a low level of immunity to some microbes. However, because they do grow inside your tank if it isn’t regularly cleaned, you can get to a level where it becomes an enormous health hazard. People experience diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach cramps, cold sweats and dehydration.

5. What are E.coli?

Escherichia coli (E.coli) is always found in the gut of warm blooded animals and birds. It will generally not multiply in the environment so acts as an excellent indicator of faecal contamination of water. Faeces can carry a variety of pathogenic bacteria, such as Salmonella, and Campylobacter, viruses such as Hepatitis A and Hepatitis E and protozoa such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia.

6. How do I know if my water tank is contaminated?

There are a number of tell-tale signs. Your water may smell, appear discoloured and or you may experience health issues. Even if you’re not sick right now, all it takes is a minor change to the conditions within your water tank and the level of microbes can explode.

7. Isn't TankVac® expensive?

TankVac® is a very inexpensive unit that which improves the water quality and cleanleness of most water tanks several times a year, depending on your local rainfall and water usage. Having a TankVac® installed will mean far greater intervals between tank cleaning and in some cases you may never need to have it cleaned again [at a cost probably greater than that of Tankvac], or worse still, having to get into a tank yourself to bucket out the sludge that accumulates quite rapidly, thereby putting your health and safety at risk.

With a TankVac® installed, any water filters in a system often last for years without the need for replacement. The reason for this is simple. No longer is plant material being sucked into the pump where it is ground into fine particles before being forced into the filter. Having a TankVac® means there is no need to add any chemicals to the household water supply. Thousands have been fitted to both full and empty tanks by ordinary kiwis.

8. How does TankVac® compare to other tank cleaners?

TankVac® is the most effective system on the market. It is a passive system which requires no power and no ongoing costs. No other system creates such a suction across the base of the tank. No other system draws out material like the TankVac® (Tests at Waikato University prove this fact).

First flush diverters fail for a number of reasons. Firstly, to flush a roof properly requires a minimum of 3mm rainfall (Sydney University study) and on a 200 sq. meter roof, this requires 600 litres. First flush diverters simply do not have the capacity to be effective. And who can afford to lose the volume of water required for a first flush each time it rains.

There is no doubt that the best way to a healthy water tank and the most effective method of preventing bacterial colonies forming and along with them the micro-organisms that feed on the nutrients provided by the bacteria, is to suck water and bacteria from off the tank base. E.coli die off overnight without the nutrient flow from the bacteria. While some first flush devices assist in an improvement in water quality, they do not cut the flow of bacteria to the tank floor.

9. Why doesn't my water sparkle?

With millions of minute animals down in your tank, all requiring oxygen, is it any wonder your water has lost its glisten? It is oxygen that puts the sparkle in the water, you’ll see this in the waves at the beach on a sunny day.

10. My kids and guests get sick every summer - why?

This, in all probability, will be caused by low-quality water. You are simply putting too many microbes into your stomach. This causes dysentery.
