How TankVac Works

How TankVac® works

In New Zealand collecting rainwater is a simple and efficient way of providing a water supply for household use. It can be collected from your roof, stored easily and used as and when you need it. And the great thing is that it’s totally free, unlike paying for metered water through the traditional town supply.

Due to the availability of cost-effective water tanks in many shapes and sizes, collecting your own roof rainwater makes sense.

Up till now, the challenge has been maintaining the quality of your drinking water.

There have many ideas on how to clean tank water. But even with a leaf gutter catcher plant material, waste and sediment can accumulate at the bottom of a tank becoming a breeding ground for bacteria like E.coli, Giardia and Salmonella: all these organisms gravitate to the floor of the tank! These bacteria are detrimental to one’s health and can cause vomiting, stomach cramps, diarrhoea and other health issues.

The TankVac® maintains your water tank by sucking up the old and contaminated water and the materials that accumulate at the bottom of your tank and siphoning them out through your water overflow. There’s no need for power and no need for chemicals.

The simplest way to healthy water – Put the life back in your water

How to clean tank water with TankVac®? When your water tank is filled to the top and goes over a specific point of the TankVac®, a special siphonic inducer creates a full 80mm diameter discharge flow. This vacuum sucks from the base of your tank removing dirty water and debris that have settled there. When the water drops to a pre-set level, the vacuum is broken and the flushing stops leaving you with clean, fresh, healthy drinking water.

Not only does the TankVac® help to make your water safer to drink, it can also reduce filter servicing costs and the cost of professional water tank cleaning.

Step 5

Hello Warren, It is Xmas day and too hot to go for a walk. This is my Xmas gift of appreciation to you.

I am the chairman of the Anakiwa Bay Water Supply Society Incorporated. We have just upgraded our scheme with 3 X 30,000 litre tanks fitted with TankVac.

I just love sitting up at our tanks – watching the TankVacs sending huge volumes of water back to our stream – just like music to my ears – trying to guess which tank will clean itself next.

I rate your invention very very highly. It works. It has no moving parts. And man-kind needs it. And they don’t know it exists.   Because we all need clean water to live healthy lives to old age – your invention should rate right up near the top – of all New Zealand inventions. No – make that global.

Our government should not be sending cash for foreign aid – they should be sending Hercules loads of TankVacs as aid.

Regards, Grahame Sisson

We had a Tank vac installed in 2002 and 11 years later it is still doing a sterling job. Prior to having a TankVac we had a filter to keep the water clean, and we left this filter in the system. We used to get the filter replaced every six months when the water pressure dropped due to it being clogged by dirt particles from the tank.

Post TankVac we noticed that the water pressure has remained high despite having the same filter for eleven years (in fact the filter is not necessary, but it was simpler to leave it in place), which indicates that the water coming from the tank is always very clean.

Guests from town are so impressed by the quality of our water that they suggest, with tongue in cheek, that we bottle it and sell it.

We are very impressed and pleased with the tank vac system that has been installed in the tanks at Mount Nebo school.

I have been at the school for 18 years and have never seen clear water come from our taps.  When we have had visitors come to the school I’ve always had to explain about the water colour when I provide water for them.  We always keep a bottle of water in the fridge and it has always had a colour to it.

NOW I am not at all concerned about providing water to visitors or staff since the installation of tank vac as our water is very very clear.  Even the water to our toilets is no longer coloured which makes our cleaner happy.  So far when the tanks go into action there is very little colour comes out in the water which obviously means that there is little sediment in our tanks.
